8 Days in Japan: Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo

Hi,

I hope you could help me with my itinerary for my future family trip to Japan in the last week of April as followed:

Day 1: Arrival at Kansai Airport to Yodogawa-ku, Ōsaka-shi, Ōsaka-fu
Day 2: One whole day in Kyoto
Day 3: One whole day in Osaka
Day 4 : Half day in Osaka; Go to Tokyo via Shinkansen
Day 5: Ameyoko/ Shibuya
Day 6: Harajuku/ Shinjuku
Day 7: One-Day Tour to Mt. Fuji
Day 8: Departs Tokyo

Questions:

1) Is buying a 7-Day JR Pass worth the trip I am planning?
2) What transportation should I use from Kansai Airport to Osaka? Where can I buy it? How much is it?
3) What transportation will i use for a whole day in Kyoto?
4) What transportation will i use for a whole day in Osaka?
5) What transportation will i use for 3 days in Tokyo?

We're a family of 5 and we have a tight budget. I hope you could help me SAVe in our transportation. I hope you could also guide us where to buy the PASS/Tickets.

Hello Rosie,

1.) For this itinerary I recommend purchasing normal tickets. A JR Pass is useful if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka/ Kyoto using the Shinkansen but does not give savings if you travel one way.

2.) For a list of cost saving tickets from Kansai Airport to Osaka see:

3.) Kyoto is best accessed using local buses and the city metro. A 500yen bus day ticket can be purchased from the driver.

4.) In Osaka the JR and city subway are the best way to move around. An Osaka amazing pass can be useful here..

5.) In Tokyo, either use the JR or Metro to travel around. There are day tickets available for both costing 750yen/per day. See this page for info.
