Hi, we're going to Tokyo on Oct 21 to attend a summit from Oct 27 to 20. We want to use the week before the summit to travel and explore Japan. We plan to make day trip to Kyoto to Nara, Osaka, Himeji Castle, and Tokyo to Nikko, Kamakura, Mount Fuji area and lakes. We want to see as much of Japan as we can. Shoud we buy the 7 Jr Pass and does it cover all our trips? We're also looking at those day tour bus + bullet train, but is it worth or we can do it ourself because those tour only allow you limited time at a place.
Thank you.

Hi there,

The JR Pass is definitely with it if you are considering something like the above. Just to give you an idea, the 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the bullet train. Any other travel after that is basically free!

Now I must say that the amount of places you plan to visit is quite high, given the time allowed and also included a good bit of travel. It is not impossible my any means but I do recommend looking at all the routes and places and ask yourself if you want to be travel that much. Alternatively it may be easier to stay a couple of nights around the Kansai Area (Kyoto/Osaka) and make day trips from there to Himeji and Nara. This would save a lot of time too.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
