14 day pass worth it?

Hi!

We're going to be in Japan for 14 days. The itinerary is as follows:
-4 nights Tokyo -5 nights Kyoto -daytrip to Nara -2 nights Hakone -3 nights Tokyo

So we could in theory just get the 7 day pass for the non-Tokyo travel, as our trip to Kyoto and then back from Hakone all happen within 7 days (leave Tokyo on the 18th and return to Tokyo on the 25th). We also fly in and out of NRT.

Do you think we should go for the 14 day pass? Wasn't sure if it was worth the expense. Or just do the 7 day? Not sure how much we'll actually use it within Tokyo or on those daytrips.

Thanks!
Michaela

Hi Michaela,

I do think that a 7 day JR Pass would be the better option if you use it to cover Tokyo - Kyoto - Hakone with it and your day trips from Kyoto as well. The additional travel will not amount that much, because it on shorter distances.

I also recommend adding in a day trip from Tokyo to Nikko. Its one of my personal favorites.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
